I'm Oprah Winfrey. Welcome to Super Soul Conversations, the podcast. I believe that one of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself is time.

0:12.0

Taking time to be more fully present. Your journey to become more inspired and connected to the deeper world around us starts right now.

0:24.0

Michael Singer, so glorious to be able to sit and have a conversation with you today. You know, I couldn't count the number of untethered souls I have given over the years.

0:38.0

First of all, it's required reading for my senior class at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. And before the pandemic, every year I would go back and I would teach from chapters 8 and 9.

0:52.0

Let go now or fall. And the chapter 9 regarding the thorns. So it's one of the most important books I think of my spiritual growth and development.

1:04.0

And now you've written a sequel called Living Untethered Beyond the Human Prediciment. And everybody you should know it's available wherever you buy your books.

1:15.0

Here we are in 2022. The last time you and I spoke was 2012. And the world looks a lot different than it did in 2012. Why was now you thought the right time to write a sequel to the untethered soul?

1:30.0

There were questions that come in from people of so-so and zero, the untethered soul. And we get a lot of questions and a lot of comments on how well everybody's doing.

1:39.0

And it was just obvious that we can go another level deeper and just make sure that it's clear. And so to me, people should write books when they have something to say. And that time came.

1:51.0

Yeah, that's exactly what I believe. People should write books only when they have something to say. And not because they have a contract that says another book is due.

1:59.0

Which often happens, you know, you quote the great 13th century Persian poet, Rumi saying yesterday I was clever. So I wanted to change the world today. I am wise. So I'm changing myself. And that seems to me to be the through line of this book. Would you agree?

2:15.0

Changing ourselves or adapting to what is?

2:19.0

Absolutely. Eventually you figure out that I am the problem. All right. I think my favorite line in that book is the moment in front of you is not bothering you. You're bothering yourself about the moment in front of you.

2:34.0

Oh, that's one of my favorite lines too.

2:36.0

You contemplate that. You see, you got some work to do on yourself.

2:40.0

Yeah, the moment in front of you is not bothering you. Ever. It's what you're thinking about. And and angsting about the moment that's in front of you.

2:51.0

So let's talk about that voice inside the head that you so profoundly made clear to us in the untethered soul. I think you explained this idea in a way that makes it really easy.

3:02.0

I think for all of us to understand you say we're not the voice we hear inside of our head. You also say we're not our bodies that we're deeper presence beyond what we hear and see.

3:13.0

How do you define the real you inside each of us the real I?

3:21.0

But I like to do over is to make it intuitive as opposed to intellectual. All right. Yeah. So the question becomes are you in there. I have never asked anybody. No matter how straight they were or non spiritual.

3:33.0

Are you in there and they said no. All right. Yeah. I mean here. That's the start of realizing who you are that you're inside.

3:41.0

And then you just do see the book ask the questions if you look at your hand. You see your hand who sees your hand. You see your hand. Right. And so but it's time you peel the layers back.
