Welcome back to the 10th episode. I can't believe we made it the 10 already of the

Bukary Cellas podcast. We've had some amazing guests from Charlemagne to God to

Hillary Clinton. We've had Deshaun Watts and we've had Vince Carter and

Antoine Jameson. I mean it's just been an amazing episode. We've had Jason

Johnson and Tiffany Cross and today we have my brother one of the best writers out there, Michael Harriet.

I look forward to interviewing my brother Michael Harriet, but before I do, I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about my experience this past Monday with the Democratic National

Committee's Platform Committee. As some of you might know I'm a member of the

DNC's Platform Committee and every four years representatives from the party's nominee in this case the Democrats chosen by Joe Biden and other candidates receiving delegates in this case Bernie Sanders and at large members chosen by DNC chair Tom Perez,

I was an at large nominee, come together and vote on positions taken by the party that we believe

should represent the party's stance on an issue.

This was by far the most progressive bold platform agenda that the DNC has ever put out. But I wanted to talk about one particular issue.

I made a speech about legalizing marijuana in support of a motion to legalize marijuana federally.

Here it is.

When I represent a young black kid for trafficking marijuana in South Carolina or his criminal offenses

are stacked one after another and their white boys in Colorado in California making a billion dollars

off of it. I just see the inherent unfairness of that. And I also think we have to invest those

dollars into the communities that were disproportionately affected by the war on drugs.

And so I'm asking you guys to take a leap of faith.

I'm asking us to be on the right side of history.

I'm not going to speak long because one of the things that I want to understand and I do understand is that we are playing on the same team here.

And I want to do everything we can to make sure that Joe Biden is the next president of the United States.

I have a I actually have an amendment very similar to what I just articulated that I will pull down because I only want us to debate this issue one time.
