Hello everyone and welcome to slash film daily for Monday, July 26th, 2021 on today's episode of the show

0:05.6

we're going to be talking about the latest film and TV news. My name is Ben Pearson I'm a senior writer at slash film

0:10.5

com and I'm joined on today's episode by slash film senior writer and weekend editor Brad Omen.

0:16.0

Hey that's me. All right Brad let's jump right into the news today I think actually as we were

0:20.4

wrapping up Friday's podcast episode some really interesting news broke and that is that Michael B Jordan is developing his own black Superman movie for HBO Max.

0:30.0

So we know that J.J. Abrams is going to be making a movie for, I think, for Warner Brothers

0:35.9

that is going to be featuring a black Superman in the lead role. My understanding of that project

0:41.5

is that it features the character of Cow L, but just like reimagined as a black person instead of, you know, the typical, you know, whatever you want to call that, Kansas white boy of, you know, even though he's an alien that we've seen in previous iterations of the Superman mythology, but now Michael B Jordan is developing his own version of a Black Superman project.

1:04.4

This is for HBO Max, so it's unclear if it's going to be a movie or a streaming show.

1:09.5

But evidently, the focus in this movie is going to be on a character named Val Zod which I have never heard of before but

1:16.0

as he is a black character who's described as one of the last kryptonians of his universe and the second

1:21.6

to see to use the mantle of Superman.

1:24.6

Evidently he is from Earth 2, like a parallel universe and the multiverse kind of situation

1:30.0

there.

1:31.0

So Brad, first of all, since you've been covering, you know, superhero lore and all that kind of stuff for the site for a long, long time, have you ever heard of Val Zodd before? Did you know about that character? No, I had not encountered that character before.

1:44.0

I haven't really heard much about him in my superhero bits coverage.

1:48.6

So what do you think about the idea of two, I guess like parallel black Superman projects going on and specifically about Michael B Jordan

1:57.2

Developing the second one here

1:59.4

It's interesting because I feel like one offers an entirely different spin on Clark and Superman as a character because obviously what is what defines that character will come from his experience on earth and the experience of

2:16.6

you know a black child becoming a black man is much different than a young you know white boy becoming a white man in America.

2:25.0

And I think that that has, there's an interesting version of Superman there.

2:30.0

And I feel like the one that Michael B. Jordan is doing is a
