So many of us don't have a healthy relationship with our emotions and don't have the boundaries that we all need to protect ourselves appropriately. We get caught up in the things we can't control and wind up ignoring what we can control. In his book, "Own Your Past, Change Your Future" Dr. John Delony draws on his two decades of work as a therapist and crisis responder to teach parents how to take extreme ownership for themselves and their children. We were thrilled to be able to interview John and go even deeper into his thoughts on how we can be healthier people who can then be more effective spouses and parents. The lessons that he gives in this interview and in his book are timeless. Listen in as we discuss the real definition of "trauma" and "grief", ownership of emotions and thoughts, the epidemic of loneliness and the need for friendship, and the role that parents play in all of this.

0:38.4	bathing suits and jump in the pool that I. And jump in the freezing cold water. I'm like, wow,
0:43.2	you guys are crazy. Yes, it is, it's only May, but the kids are, and we don't, we just have like an
0:49.2	above ground pool, but the kids, they were all in it yesterday. Everybody was jumping in there.
0:54.5	So, yeah, they're pretty determined.
0:56.1	They're very excited about swimming.
0:57.4	But what's so weird is that then when it gets to the hottest parts of the summer, there
1:02.5	are many days when everybody just stays inside.
1:04.2	No one goes in the pool.
1:05.0	You're like, we should start kicking them outside.
1:07.7	Yes, yes.
1:08.3	We will definitely start kicking them outside. And also, no, I thought you were
1:11.3	going to say, you know, it's summer because when I can't find Alicia, I just have to go and look
1:16.1	outside and she's digging some dirt somewhere, putting in something somewhere. Yes. I am determined to reclaim
1:24.1	our land inch by inch by foot. Push it back a little bit here,
1:28.5	a little bit more tamer this year.
