Summary

Today’s guest spent seventeen hours trapped in a hotel room certain she was going to die as terrorists moved through the hotel executing innocents. She is now using that experience to help others suffering from PTSD.

In 2019, Meyli Chapin survived an attack on a hotel complex in Nairobi, Kenya by Al-Shabaab terrorists that left 22 civilians dead. She credits former SAS operator Christian Craighead with saving her and hundreds of others that January day by running to the sound of the guns. Her harrowing ordeal, subsequent struggles with PTSD, and how she fought to overcome that trauma is detailed in her book, Terrorist Attack Girl: How I Survived Terrorism and Reconstructed My Shattered Mind.  Meyli’s efforts to empower those dealing with traumatic events inspired her to develop and found Trauma Brace, the first standalone self-help app for trauma survivors.
