Summary
Meg Linehan of The Athletic is back on the show to discuss this weekend's NWSL Challenge Cup Final, as well as her thoughts on some of the best offseason moves in the league. Plus, which teams are looking strong (or as strong as ever) and which teams still have some work to do! There's also Taylor attempting to get Meg to make Olympic roster predictions, with ends on a more useful topic of HOW Vlatko might be approaching assembling his roster. And, up front, Meg gets into the challenges of covering women's soccer in the US and the ways in which both the intensity and meaningfulness of that coverage could be improved.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, hello and welcome everybody to The Total Soccer Show. My name is Taylor Rockwell. And joining me today is our friend and yours here to tell us all about the NWSL, except for anything schedule related. It's Meg Linnehan. Meg, thanks so much as always for being here. Hello. I don't have to ask you the usual question for which there is a shirt. We don't really have to talk about the regular season schedule because it's out. People can find it elsewhere. We're going to talk a little bit about the regular season. We're going to talk some Olympics as well. But we're going to start today with the Challenge Cup. And before I even get to that, I should just ask, I'm assuming it's been a busy time for you. |
| 0:55.0 | How are you doing, Meg? |
| 0:55.6 | How are thanks? |
| 0:56.2 | You know, I'm on my second cup of coffee. Perfect. So that is helpful. This is you on your second cup of coffee? Yeah, which is probably a bad thing. But yeah, I mean, it's just, you know, I'm looking at my list of like eight stories |
| 1:11.9 | I need to write before the regular season starts. |
| 1:14.3 | And I'm going, okay, yeah, this is good. |
| 1:15.9 | And then, you know, now we're finally starting to get |
| 1:18.6 | all of the news about transfers and folks coming back |
| 1:22.8 | to the NWSL and all sorts of things. |
| 1:25.2 | So it's just there is never a dull moment in this league |
| 1:30.1 | ever. So, you know, that's, that's kind of the existence that I've signed up for. |
| 1:35.9 | Well, let's talk more about the existence you've signed up for and continue our Meg Linnehan |
| 1:40.4 | wellness check that I didn't realize was going to be taking place right now. Do you get time off once the season begins? |
| 1:46.6 | Because if we've got games on the weekends, it's a thing I sort of struggle with is how to find time off. |
| 1:51.7 | If you've got games on the weekends and then you've got to cover them during the week, it can be hard to find time. |
| 1:56.4 | So what's your usual schedule like once the season begins? |
| 2:01.6 | So I don't have a good answer for this. |
| 2:05.2 | I mean, it's really just kind of, you know, sometimes trying to take a day off during the week. |
| 2:09.9 | But also, you know, there is, like, I have obviously the writing part. |
| 2:14.5 | I have the watching games part. |
| 2:15.9 | I have the podcast part. |
| 2:17.0 | And then I also do this video with relevant sports called The Fixture, which also generally I work on the weekends. |
