Greetings, dearest listeners, this is David Olt. You may know me from places like the No Sleep Podcasts, the White Vault, the Byron Chronicles,

and various other places across the web and across the podcasting universe.

But today, well, today I'm doing something that I have never done before.

No, it's not juggling rattlesnakes.

I'm playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Yeah, I know. Travis, the games dungeon master, has walked me through the basics and I've put together my first character.

Oh, am I kidding? Travis put this together, but he's allowing me to take the credit. And the character

that he's created, I've created, is a god-hating shopkeeper

named Iyus Insky. So let's start with the basics. IAS is a teafling, a creature that's half

drow, half fiend. Basically, one of his parents was a demon. He was never really sure which one, because

he only ever remembers being an orphan. IS is about 5'2, 180 pounds, and is currently, at the

time of the game, 27 years of age. And before you make a remark about his weight, his tail and devil

horns that protrude from his head add a fair amount of weight on there.

IAS's skin is either grey or red, sort of shifting colours based on his mood, and his piercing black eyes would unnerve most before they even know his true profession.

Now, for a bit of history on the guy, IAS was an orphan in the city

of Réjuie, the entombed city. It's the home of liches and necromancers, a place where foul new

undead beasts are created daily, a vast underground network of caverns, buildings and laboratories

cut into stone, some parts

even lined with living flesh because it makes for good insulation or something.

This is located smack in the middle of the darklands, an evil kingdom where, thanks to the

dark miracle, no sunlight penetrates its skies.
