Make a tap! Oh, nice. This is hell.

is Hell. Today we're talking about something very, very uniquely American, and that is the

McMancheon and in all its ready-made disposable grandeur.

As our guest describes these behemoths of residential architecture, the

McMansion, which is often the property of homeowners who also own trucks that are also far too big and like McMansions

completely unnecessary and thoroughly wasteful during a time of global warming

and rampant inequality but there's something more to the McMansion, which began in the 1980s, but really exploded

onto the scene with the housing bubble leading up to that bubble bursting with the great recession

of 2008. You may be thinking that the McMansion scare would have ended with the bubble bursting, but it didn't.

In fact, it's gotten worse, with so many critics now focused on what our guest describes as the

boxy five over one apartment building, so named for its five stories of residential

units over one story of retail that began blanketing every American city, the new

McMansions faded into the backdrop of the American landscape. So with the primacy

of the individual taking greater and greater hold of U.S. culture and society,

with profits over people dominating at all, homeowners have increasingly sequestered themselves

in homes that give residents no reason to ever leave their residences and be

part of the Commons ever again, all while showing off their wealth and class status to their neighbors, whoever they are.
