For the personal indulgence of paying tribute to two men who have influenced my life a great deal

One of whom I knew

One of whom I didn't

Jerry Klauer, the second of those, whose

97th birthday was yesterday

I had it all prepped up, the guys had everything ready for me. I didn't get to it, which is often the case

Jerry Klauer is a great story

Because I tell you I often quote the line of Ed Sable, the founder of NFL Films

Tell me a fact and I'll learn it. Tell me the truth and I'll believe it. Tell me a story and it'll live in my heart forever

The point of Jerry Klauer is not the punchline

He's more a humorist than a comedian

The point of the story is not the destination, it's the journey

It's the story telling itself that is the art, that is the comedy, that is the experience

So as my personal tribute to this great man who has meant so much to me

I've listened to everything he's ever done that's been recorded

He passed in 98, 25 years ago so I can't do more than that, I can't hear him live

But he was a fertilizer salesman speaking at anyone that would listen to him speak so he could sell more fertilizer across the South

And lemon records figured out

Let's do a recording of this and it sold 8,000 copies and then MCA

Their Deca records came in and award him a million platinum standing for the Coon Hunt
