Summary

In this deeply soulful episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta Yadav sits down with May Lindstrom, founder of May Lindstrom Skin, to explore the intimate connection between sensitivity, ritual, and true nourishment. Known for her artisanal, plant-based formulations and sensory-rich approach to beauty, May shares how her lifelong struggle with eczema led her to create skincare that heals rather than hides — born from necessity, curiosity, and love.

Raised in the natural stillness of northern Minnesota, May found refuge in the earth’s elements — clays, oils, honey, and herbs — long before “clean beauty” became a movement. “It’s not that skincare is bad,” she reflects. “It’s just not made for me.” That realization sparked a philosophy rooted in respect for the skin as a living organ, not a canvas for correction. Her formulations — minimal, potent, and entirely natural — focus on feeding the skin what it recognizes, not overwhelming it with synthetics.

Her cult-favorite creation, The Blue Cocoon, captures that essence — a calming blue balm made with blue tansy, designed to soothe inflammation, heal sensitivity, and offer a moment of self-grounding. “It’s like a hug for your skin,” May says. “A reminder to slow down and care.”

This episode is a meditation on slowing down in a world obsessed with surface perfection. Tune in as May Lindstrom and Dr. Ekta explore how skincare can be both science and soul — an act of self-connection that begins and ends with care.

Hey guys, welcome back to the skin anarchy. I'm thrilled about this episode because we have a phenomenal guest. She has been a leader in skin health for quite some time. Many of you might recognize her brand. It was a frontrunner when it came to truly clean skin care that was meant for almost everybody. You know, when I first discovered the brand, I remember just being so happy that there was something out there for people who, like me, I had very sensitive skin. I still do, you know, and so it was a really great discovering for me when I discovered it. I'm excited to chat with her today. Please welcome. I'm so excited to host you. Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to be here. I'm just thinking

0:39.1

about sensitive skin. There's so, there actually is so much skincare out there for sensitive

0:43.0

skin and I'm in the process of a pretty bad flare up on my hands of dishydraulic eczema

0:48.8

right now, actually for the first time in 15 years. And so I've been thinking about what sensitive

0:54.1

skin actually means.

0:55.1

It's so different for each of us, depending on what we're sensitive to. When I have a flare-up,

1:00.9

everyone's like, what do you put on it? What's your go-to cream? My challenge has always been

1:06.9

that even the most basic cream, the main ingredients are things I'm sensitive to.

1:12.9

Basic preservatives that go in everything, the ubiquitous fillers that go in everything.

1:19.2

It's the surfactants in soap that's in every bathroom, every kitchen.

1:24.4

For me, my approach to sensitive skin has always just been about fundamentals. And I mean,

1:29.3

really fundamentals like down to the dirt, it's clay, it's earth, it's spice, plants, it's flowers,

1:35.5

honey and oils and butter. And it's a different territory of sensitive skin. It's not the white

1:43.0

and sunscented cream from the

1:45.4

psychologist. I mean, I really tried that method, but I was allergic to that very thing.

1:50.9

Yeah. That's so interesting to me because this is exactly why I feel like the area of clean

1:57.4

science or clean beauty, right? It's kind of strayed a little bit, right, from this idea

2:02.1

of what does that mean, you know, and what does it mean to formulate for sensitive skin?

2:07.0

And I think you brought up such an important point here is that it is the things that we don't

2:12.0

even think about that are in these formulations that are the real culprits when it comes to

2:16.4

reactions, especially if you are

2:18.5

prone to redness, rosacea, eczema, anything, atopic. I would love for you, walk us down
