Summary

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Matty Lansdown. As a scientist and nutrition consultant with a passion for sharing the truth, Matty started on Facebook Live ranting about Food Is Medicine and Nutritional Therapies, which soon moved to seminars, retreats, and conferences in front of thousands and is now accompanied by his growing podcast called “How To NOT Get Sick And Die.” The aim has always been: to have people feel like they’re in control of their health and empowered to take the necessary action! After ten years of study, research, and experimentation, Matty has worked to become a prolific voice in the health, nutrition, and diet space, including food is medicine, body detoxification, energy optimization, and weight loss. To empower individuals to live their best life Matty deliver this scientific training through stories and metaphors that allow you to live a highly energetic life, increase your productivity, lose a few kilos in the process and do the things you used to without having to stare at the number on the scales. In this episode, Matty opens up the show by explaining what he learned from working at a cancer hospital. For one, Matty learned that lifestyle choices cause around 95% of cancers. That is one of the reasons why he is so passionate about nutrition, so Matty reveals why diet culture doesn’t work and how you can slowly begin to change your lifestyle. Tune in as we chat about awakening people to the power of government, ways to celebrate your wins, and how to enjoy your food guilt-free. [00:50] About Matty Lansdown and What He Learned From Working At A Cancer Hospital Matty’s mom was a nurse; he was always in the hospital. From a very young age, he developed this really positive relationship with the concept of medicine and hospitals. At university, Matty lived on beer, rice, pasta, and bread. Eventually, Matty got a job at a cancer hospital. Matty learned that the World Health Organization said that 90 to 95% of cancers are due to diet, lifestyle, and tobacco. At the time, only 5% of cancers were genetic. Unfortunately, much of society doesn’t believe that lifestyle choices cause cancer. [17:50] Why Diet Culture Doesn’t Work and How To Do “One Tweak A Week” Some people have been on forty diets, and they are in a more unhealthy state than when they first began their journey. You can’t solve deep problems during an eight-week course. Matty says, “one tweak a week.” If you jump too far out of your comfort zone, your nervous system will think it’s unsafe and dangerous. When you do one tweak a week, your new lifestyle will get built slowly over time. While on the other hand, when you go on a diet, you are supposed to do everything all at once. [26:05] Making Long-Lasting Changes That Are Meaningful and Sustainable Most people want everything to happen tomorrow; however, you need the maturity to understand that it is impossible. You will trick yourself into failing if you think everything will change tomorrow. If you do too much too fast, you will wear yourself out. There is not enough space in 24 hours to live an unsustainable transformation. Make your tweak meaningful, but not too significant or too much change at one time. [33:15] How Covid Is Awakening People To The Power of The Media and The Government Melbourne is the most locked-down city on the planet. It has been a lonely and challenging time in Melbourne. Matty noticed that Netflix had photoshopped masks onto their thumbnails during the pandemic. Covid is awakening people to the power of the media and the fact that the news is a PR agency for the government. Now, people are thinking about what belief systems have been embedded in their subconscious. [37:00] Forming Your Own Identity By Challenging Your Ideas and Belief Systems Perpetually challenging the ideas in your head is a healthy way to start forming your own identity. We meet and eat with our friends and families, so we have the same relationships around food as we do with our loved ones. Is your relationship with food one that you have, or is it one that has been embedded in you? Anything is possible once you take control of your belief systems and your own decisions. [42:00] The Reason You Should Permit Yourself To Enjoy Something Guilt-Free Sometimes you can give yourself permission to enjoy chocolate and birthday cake. Once you finish the chocolate, you should return to the way you existed before. Remember, you don’t have to fall off the bandwagon and beat yourself up. Foods that you enjoy don’t have to be eradicated forever. If you choose to eat something unhealthy, make sure to have love and respect for yourself still. [48:10] Accountability and Celebrations Are Essential For Your Journey Have people in your life to keep you accountable for celebrations. It’s too easy to focus on the negative. Instead, you need someone to remind you to celebrate. If you don’t have time to enjoy the process, then what’s the point? When you celebrate small things, they become big things. AND MUCH MORE!
