Barbara Daly was born in 1922 and grew up in Boston.

Barbara had an unhealthy and chaotic upbringing with parents who struggled to maintain stability for their family.

Her future husband would later say that she had mischief in her blood.

Barbara's mother, Nini, had a breakdown a few years before Barbara was born, and was prone to struggling with her mental health throughout Barbara's life.
