Summary
Shane Bacon graces us with his voice and presence for this Wednesday episode, which begins with a few Masters odds and ends as the hype and build-up begins with the tournament just a week away. Shane and Brendan discuss some early storylines, including the looming LIV arrival and commingling with PGA Tour pros on the grounds at Augusta National. Will there actually be tension or confrontation? In schedule for the week, they relay some amusing TPC San Antonio stories, make one-and-done picks, and ponder why some pros are teeing it up in Texas. They also discuss LIV’s prep at the Crooked Cat in Orlando, and the LPGA’s continued West Coast swing with the one true LA Open. News hits on a PGA Tour memo outlining the various statuses for next year under the new Designated framework, the value and weighting of FedEx Cup points, Mike Trout National coming from designer Tiger Woods, and some early CBS plans for the Masters.

| 0:00.0 | Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here. |
| 0:14.0 | And there we go. |
| 0:17.0 | All right, all right, all right. |
| 0:21.0 | Get the man. Start your engine. |
| 0:38.0 | Credence are welcome to a Wednesday edition of the shotgun start. It is March 29th. Shane, how are we doing? |
| 0:45.0 | Hi, Brandon. How are you? |
| 0:48.0 | I love the hard right turn from the shouting and a separate pitch. We have a professional here with us joining this Wednesday episode of the shotgun start professional, but frequent friend of the program. |
| 1:00.0 | Shane Bacon ahead of next week's masters ahead of this week's Valero Texas open, which I'm sure will give the lion share of the episode to a non designated event. |
| 1:10.0 | But Shane, thank you. Thank you for joining us. What's on your mind, the golf related these days? Are you like all masters or is there anything else that's occupying your brain? |
| 1:19.0 | I will say I was pretty dialed to the match play. I found it interesting obviously with with so many big names, you know, making it far and you know that that's the rise in the fall of match play, right? |
| 1:29.0 | If you've got a lot of big names involved late, it's going to be exciting. And if you don't, it won't be as exciting even though I'm bummed it, you know, match plays going away. |
| 1:37.0 | We'll see what happens in 25, but I feel like I have watched. I've kind of taken a page out of Andy's book. I've watched more. |
| 1:47.0 | I've watched more PJ tour golf. I think in the early parts of this season that I had over the last few years, I've thought it's been an unbelievable PJ tour year so far. |
| 1:57.0 | And I thought the match play was representative of that. So obviously all of us kind of gearing up for the masters, but you know, I mean, when's the last time we've had this many names playing this well at this point. |
| 2:09.0 | And you know, obviously with all the live guys kind of being a bit unknown, go into the masters. I just feel like we're kind of gearing towards what could be an epic epic week at Augusta. |
| 2:19.0 | Yeah, just just related to that match play would not to look too far back, but Josh Carpenter sports business journal tweeted ratings. And you know, my view on ratings are, you know, it's not reflective of whether something was good or valuable in and of itself, right? |
| 2:32.0 | It's just there is general interest. It is a gauge one gauge. They talked about how it was up 12% the match play and I think six of seven events on the PJ tour this year, final rounds are like up. |
| 2:45.0 | So the tour does seem to be, you know, not to fluff the tour too much, but I think like we approached this pretty objectively. |
| 2:54.0 | It's been an exciting product match play, I think was indicative of the larger first quarter where like the best players are all in the same place and they're playing well and that's simplistic to say like good golf, first play well, but like that's not always the case so frequently on the PJ tour as we evidence by so rarely getting to fire burst fill had to head ever really. |
| 3:16.0 | So like I think it's been an awesome first quarter and some of the ratings are reflected as they come in for match play. |
| 3:22.0 | I was thinking about this on Sunday, I mean, obviously everybody was hoping they get Rory and Sheffler in the finals and you know, you think of years past with the match play, how much we would have given to see a Sam Burns versus Cameron young in the finals, you know, I mean, that would have been something that we would have been excited for to, you know, young players, you know, one obviously looking for his first win on the PJ tour and another one, I say kind of needed something to happen. |
| 3:46.0 | It hadn't quite been the same Burns we saw, you know, middle parts of last year and so while we didn't get Rory Sheffler in years past, Burns versus young would have been an epic showdown in the finals and I think something golf people would have circled as a win. |
