And China orders pause on purchases of Boeing jets mid-trade war. Trade war, trade war, trade war,

turmoil, chaos. Liz, things are not going well. Okay, fine. Not in the headlines opinion.

However, when I first learned the markets, this is late 20th century, after I turned away from being

a literary author and started to read the

newspapers seriously. I read about something called the Greenspan put. I didn't know what it was.

I knew Alan Greenspan was the chairman of the Federal Reserve and that he was much admired

and there was actually a metric

someday when he went when he went to the board governor meeting with a thick briefcase or a

thin briefcase that was supposed to tell you which way he was going with the interest rates

but i still didn't know what a Greenspan put was. What was it?

And now I hear talk of a Trump put.

What is it?

Well, I think what we're talking about is the ability of Greenspan, on the one hand, and now Donald Trump, to create buoyant markets. And, you know, I think that coming into this

year, there was a question whether Jay Powell had a put on the market. Could he be counted on,

in other words, to lower interest rates in a timely way if the market's got into trouble.

And that, interestingly, we haven't really heard much chatter about the Fed, John.
