I'm Mark Stephen and this week I'm on the coast of Fife in the company of Paleo-Katey,

as she's known on social media. Paleo-Kate, as she's known on social media.

Paleo-Katee is actually Dr. Katie Strang. She's a paleontologist and a geologist, and she is

hugely passionate about fossils and rocks. So, as I've got something of an interest myself,

I was delighted to be able to spend some time in a company.

We are currently standing on what's called Preston Island,

which used to be an artificial island,

so it was separated from the main part of Fife.

And Sir Preston in the 1800s realized it was a good opportunity to create a salt pan

because there was coal deposits here

so they sunk some coal mines and more recently they've basically been working to regenerate this land

and a lot of it is material that's come from the Longanac Power Station. So they get called the ash lagoons.
