and quite possibly a classic in waiting about a large, gruff, retired schoolteacher in

small town Maine. With me to introduce their goodread, our first, the musician, author and radio presenter Mark Radcliffe,

who also hosts music documentaries and festivals on television and is a long-standing anchor of

the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury. His latest book, Crossroads, comes out in paperback this month.

With Mark is the playwright Patricia Cumber, whose many-stranded career

includes writing dramas for theatre and radio and contributing to news programmes on the BBC

World Service. Most recently, Patricia's abridged two novels for Radio 4's book at bedtime,

Sam Selvon's The Housing Lark and Bernardine Everistow's Girl, Woman, Other.
