Well, Doris Kearns Goodwin, well, we haven't talked to her in a long time.

She's one of the, maybe the greatest historian around, and so many fine books.

Now, FDR is about, well, it's going to be a big, it is a big documentary series,

and it'll be on the History Channel this weekend.

It premieres on Monday Memorial Day, the 29th, 8 p.m. on the history channel.

And it's great to have her back with us.

I'm good.

Thank you very much for having me.

I'm so glad to be talking about this miniseries.

Yeah. FDR, you know, it's hard for anybody to realize this now, especially if you're a kid's studying history, that anybody could have won a fourth term as president.

There were no term limits. Do we agree now it was a bad idea to have endless presidencies?

Well, you know, I think in general that George Washington was right, that two terms is enough.

The difference with FDR was that when he was facing the decision about a third term in 1940,

war had started in Europe, and he really did feel

that he had the experience to take us through that war.

Then the fourth term comes when he's in the middle of the war, and it still hasn't ended.

I think we were lucky to have him there definitely for that third term.

There's no question in my mind that there was no other leader that could have taken us
