Excellent column yesterday. This defeat of Lori Lightfoot. We weren't sure what was going to happen.

She got defeated. And as you say, a wake-up call to Democrats, right?

Or a woke-up call.

Which was a clever New York Post headline.

Look, this was a surprise, I think, by how big the margin was of her defeat.

This is one of these nonpartisan primaries where everybody runs,

and then the two top finishers have a runoff if

nobody gets a majority. I think the rule is there. She got 17%. Now, if you've been mayor of a big

city or any city for almost four years and you get 17% when you run for re-election.

I mean, that is an incredible rebuke.

And the winner, or the leading candidate, I should say, Paul Valis, got 34% running on an

anti-crime platform and promising to

uh... add and higher two thousand more police officers in chicago

and the second place finisher with twenty percent

uh...

is basically anti-police pro pro teachers union which in, which in Chicago, the teachers union is so radical

it makes New York's teachers unions look moderate by comparison.
