Michael Goodwin. How you doing? Hi, good morning, Mark. Thank you. Hey, before we get to the column, Ron DeSantis dropping out, pretty good self-awareness for him,

and he surprised me.

Look, I think it finally dawned on him what was unavoidable anymore, that he just, this was not his time uh whether he will have a time

remains to be seen but this was definitely not his time uh the more the more the harder he campaign

the more people got to know him the more his vote sank i mean it, it's remarkable when you think about it. I mean,

this is a guy very accomplished, very smart, and yet he just, people didn't like him. And I think

that was fundamentally a big issue. But I also think that there's a lot of overthinking and overwriting about what went

wrong. I think it's more about what went right with Trump. The, you know, when DeSantis

entered this race, he was on a high, Desantis was on a high after his reelection, and Trump, you know, was sort of

in the woods. He had been exiled. He was being investigated, and it looked like many

Republicans were ready to turn the page. I mean, there was a certain logic to it. Trump was older.

There were, there were these cases, and if he were elected

again, he could only serve one term. And so maybe it was time for a new generation. I thought

that was DeSantis' appeal. But things turned out differently in large part because those

investigations turned into indictments and the failure, the complete collapse really of the

Biden governing ideas, the great failure of them them i think the combination of those two things lifted

trump in a way that very few people expected yeah uh interesting interesting turnaround i think one of

the key points remember when uh trump visited ohio yes after that terrible disaster, Biden didn't.

Nobody else did.

The rest of them are all just tone deaf about things.

They're busy with the Ukraine instead of Ohio.
