Marine spirits refer to demonic entities that operate in and have connection to water.

Many cultures, particularly in Africa, the Caribbean and parts of Asia,

recognize them as spiritual forces that dominate rivers, lakes and oceans. They're often

associated with spiritual bondage, sexual immorality, and manipulation or nightmares in dreams

and actually in real life. Now here's a traditional African belief about marine spirits.

Many times they're called Mamiwata, which is a piglin English for Mother Water.

It's a spirit that has and have been worshipped, honored, venerated since 1400s

when Europeans brought their legends of mermaids to Africa.

Africans mix their own indigenous local beliefs about female water spirits represented by fish,

crocodiles and snake with European mermaid ideas.

So, mummy water is a mermaid often with a snake draped around her.

She's exotic, semi-white female, beautiful and seductive.

She's associated with sacred lake or other body of water.

She's worshipped in West and Central Africa.

She's experienced by mediums who go into possession trends.
