tell a story about something that affected you in any way and let your inner

monologue and your response to that drive it. I just had this happen. I just

taught a class and I had a woman in the class who was a working mom in her 40s who I think

has had a very exciting life but right now this phase of her life is not as exciting as some of the things that had happened before.

She had had a very rich life, lived all over the place, and right now her life was pretty stable, like what you just said.

And she told this great story about something that happened at a grocery store

and a person being rude to her and everything that went on in her head

and everything she wanted to say and everything that happened when she got home.

And it was awesome and hilarious and it was

literally about this whole thing of what was happening on the inside versus what was actually happening in reality

and that's and it was a story about a trip to a grocery

store where the shopkeeper forgot to put something into her back that's it that's it.

That's it. And it was brilliant when I was in putting feedback for her I said I think your story was actually the most challenging to tell

rather than some of the other ones that were about bigger things. You know I mean I have students that are wonderful that tell great stories about you know shot, big things like that.

And a story like that will work because it's a big story.

But most of us, most of us, only have one or two big stories.
