All right, the Montecito mudslides have cost insurance companies more than $421 million in claims. A lot of these homes in Montecito were and are a fortune.

This is where Oprah Winfrey lives. This is where Ellen DeGeneres lives.

I mean, this is very high-end property. So you can imagine as these homes were wiped out and businesses were wiped out, it was just a fortune.

Now, here is the spin on this. Most homeowners don't have flood or mudslide insurance.

And insurance commissioner Jones said, not to worry, because Dave Jones said,

while you don't have flood insurance, we don't consider this

flood damage because of a flood.

We consider the proximate cause of the damage, the fire, that the Thomas fire that caused the destruction of all of the ground coverage.

So when the rains came, had the ground cover, had the had the bushes, the trees that were

burned up, had they still been there, you wouldn't have had mudflip, you wouldn't have

these mudslides.

So he ruled as insurance commissioner that the proximate cause was the fire. And guess what?

Everybody has fire insurance. So it's all covered.

There are people, a lot of happy campers.

I don't have flood insurance.

I don't know if I can get flood insurance.
