Summary

Join Jim and Greg for Thursday's 3 Martini Lunch as they highlight Zohran Mamdani's radical responses in a Fox News interview, President Trump approving covert CIA operations in Venezuela, and the Democrats still tripping all over themselves on the government shutdown.

First, they react to socialist New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani’s evasive answers about Hamas disarming and his shocking statement that he would “exhaust every legal option” to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited New York City while Mamdani was mayor. While some are disarmed by Mamdani's calm demeanor and frequent smiles, Jim says he came across as "shameless" in the interview.

Next, they analyze a New York Times report that President Trump has approved covert CIA missions in Venezuela aimed at ousting socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro. Jim and Greg would be thrilled to see Maduro go, but Jim warns that there better be a clear plan on what comes next after our recent efforts at installing governments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Finally, they highlight House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries' cringeworthy attempt to blame the government shutdown on House Republicans. They also look at new polling showing that voters blame both parties for the shutdown. And will Democrats fold after their big anti-Trump rallies this weekend or forge ahead in a fight they cannot win?

I wish we could tell you we had a good martini today.

I'm not entirely sure that we do. Our middle one is potentially good. I mean, it's a good end goal, but there might be some

complications involved with it. But let's start with yesterday's interview between Martha McCallum

on the Fox News channel with Zoran Mamdani, the clear frontrunner for

mayor of New York City.

0:40.5

Now, tonight is a New York City mayoral debate, which will involve Andrew Cuomo and Curtis

Levo, along with Mamdani.

Not sure that a one debate will necessarily make that much of a difference, but as we found

0:53.0

out last June, Jim, June of last year, one debate actually can't make a pretty big difference, even at the presidential level. Joe Biden imploding after that. But let's talk about this interview. There's so many parts of this interview. One was where he's like grinning through his explanation that the rich New Yorkers, if you make over a million,

1:11.0

you can pay more than 50% in taxes. Come on, it's for your betterment.

1:15.3

But Martha McCallum also asked Mom Dani about his opinions on the latest developments in the Middle East.

1:21.9

He's had a lot to say, very obviously critical of Israel, talking about how it's a genocide and an occupation and all this kind of stuff.

1:31.7

But when it comes to what should happen with Hamas, who perpetrated the October 7th attacks,

1:37.3

which he has perfunctorily denounced in many of his statements, all of a sudden he's not so sure what should happen.

1:43.7

So here's how that went. Do you believe that Hamas should lay down their weapons and leave the leadership in Gaza? I believe that any future here in New York City is one that we have to make sure that's affordable for all. And as it pertains to Israel and Palestine, that we have to ensure that there is peace. And that is the future that we have to fight for. But you won't say that Hamas should lay down their arms and give up leadership in Gaza. I don't really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety and the fact that anything has to abide by international law. And that applies to Hamas, that applies to the Israeli military, applies to anyone you could ask me about. Well, the affordability answer to a Middle East question is kind of like Kamala Harris answering every question with, I'm from a middle class family, just always staying on the talking points. But then Martha McCallum, intelligently, follows up on that. Hey, I don't want to get involved. This is not my lane to, hey, remember that time you said you'd arrest Netanyahu if he came to New York City while you were mayor? How about that?

2:38.1

I've said that you would arrest Netanyahu if he came to the United States. You've been very outspoken in your criticism of him. Do you stand by that? You would arrest him if he came here if you were mayor? I've said that this is a city that believes international law, and this is a city that wants to uplift and uphold those beliefs.
