Summary
Josh Matson and Kerry discuss the various ways the verses about turning the hearts of fathers and children to each other have been taken. They are used differently in our scriptures, and are even quoted differently, and we grapple with that. Josh also shows us how different ancient groups took these verses. We then tie it into the covenant, and wrap up the Old Testament with that.
We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and for our editor, Alexia Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the scriptures or real podcast. This is the podcast where we talk about things in the scriptures that have made them become more real to us because we believe the more real they are, the more we are able to apply them to our lives, and we |
| 0:21.3 | really need to do that. I'm your host, Kerry Mealstein, and we're happy to have back with this. I think this is the first time in the history of the podcast that we've had the same guest back-to-back weeks, but we're happy to have back with this, Josh Mattson. So welcome, Josh. Thanks Gary. Great to be back. |
| 0:36.7 | And so last week, as we did Haggai, we introduced Josh. |

| 1:01.7 | another thing about him that's of interest. Well, yeah, is there something else? Maybe we should |
| 1:09.5 | learn about your hobbies or something. |
| 1:11.3 | Yeah, I mean, we could do that. |
| 1:12.5 | I think one of my weird hobbies is every Thanksgiving morning, I wake up and run a half marathon. |
| 1:19.5 | So I like to run. |
| 1:20.7 | That is weird. |
| 1:21.6 | Yeah. |
| 1:22.3 | My wife is a runner, and I always wonder what kind of brain damage people have that they're doing that. |
| 1:27.9 | So anyway, yeah. Yeah. So, so I'm maybe that's, that's the tidbit that we can give readers today is that, that that's what I do. I try to get a number of miles in, but a few years back, we were living in Florida. I just woke up one morning and said, you know what? It would be, it would justify all the eating that I'm about to do if I just went out and ran a half marathon today. So I, uh, I laced up the running shoes and, and ran one of the benefits of being in Florida is it's a little cool, but it's not too cold. So it's actually a really comfortable run. But when I got back that we had a pool in our, our apartment complex. And so I got back and I just, |
| 2:02.8 | I dipped in the pool for a half hour and it was like a come back. And so I didn't quite have that. |
| 2:08.4 | I ran it this year at my parents' home in Shubbik, Idaho. And I woke up. It was a blistering 21 degrees when I started. But it was kind of fun. |
| 2:19.9 | From my parents' home, up and around the Pocatello, Idaho, Temple, and back was just about |
| 2:25.0 | the distance of a half marathon. So it was kind of a, it was a fun way to kick off that holiday. |
| 2:32.9 | So yeah, there you go. Those may be looking for an extra runner |
