Summary

Lou Nanne had decided he would leave his position as senior vice president for the North Stars in April 1991 to take a job in the corporate world. But Lou's plans changed, at least temporarily, when the North Stars went on a shocking run to the Stanley Cup Finals. In this episode, Lou recalls how the North Stars got on a roll, how gratifying it was to see Mike Modano and Bobby Smith involved in the success and if it was odd to watch Bobby Clarke and Bob Gainey running the show. Yes, Louie also tells some fantastic Norm Green stories.

So I stayed around as president for their tenure.

And then when Howard Baldwin bought the team,

1:22.3

and then he immediately, within three months,

1:26.0

he sold him, controlling ownership to Norm Green.

1:30.1

And Norm Green came in, and he came in, took the title president and governor,

1:35.1

and so I became executive vice president.

1:37.5

And I had to stay one more year by my contract, so I told him, you know,

1:41.6

I stayed one more year with him.

1:45.8

And I really thought that,

1:53.4

because I already had a job that I was going to, and I had to put that on hold. So I decided,

1:58.7

you know, I'd leave in April because it didn't look like we were going to be a very good team and when we probably missed the playoffs or be out of it right away.

2:02.7

So I made a deal with my employer at the time where I was going to the financial business

2:07.8

that I'm in now that I would come in April, April 15th after the season was over.

2:14.3

Well, little did we know we were going to go right to the finals.
