As we continue to go through your hockey career, last week we talked about the merger that you were involved in as GM of the North Stars between the North Stars and Cleveland Barons.

This week, I want to go back to where it all started for you and this state.

So I believe the year was 1959.

What led a kid playing hockey from Sue St. Marie to the golfers in 1959, Lou Nanny?

Well, I was owned by, my rights were owned by Chicago Blackhawks, and when I finished high school there,

at that time I was thinking about coming to Dennis, so I wanted to go play juniors in St. Mike's

and go to the University of Toronto. But Rudy Pillis,

who was coaching a Blackhawks representing them, and they own the St. Catherine's junior team where

Bobby Hall and McKee were playing, and they came to me and said, no, I got to go play in St. Catherine.

They have my rights. They're not going to let me play in Toronto. And they said I could go to school at McMaster and said, no, I got to go play in St. Cathner. They have my rights. They're not going to let me play in Toronto.

And they said, I could go to school at McMaster and Hamilton, which is, you know, 10 miles away.

But I said, they don't have a dental school.

He says, well, you can be a dentist after you finish junior.

And I said, no, he's well, and you won't play in Canada. So I had to go to the United States to play. And North Dakota had come up to visit me,

and I was in RPI. I was talking to a few schools. And then Bob May was coaching North Dakota.

I said, no, I'm going to be a dentist. You don't have dental school there. He said,

you should go into business. And I said, now I really think I'm going to be a dentist.

So oddly enough, about a couple weeks later, he got offered a job in Denver and the International

League, so he left North Dakota, and he was living in Minneapolis, and he ran into

Marucci and told him that I wouldn't come because of the dental school.

Marucci called me and brought me down.

I never heard of Minnesota or Marriucci or anything.
