A curfew is in place in pockets of downtown Los Angeles, with police saying they've started

arresting dozens of people. According to authorities, the curfew covers about one square

mile and applies from 8pm to 6 a.m. Pacific time. And L.A. Mayor Karen Bass says it could last a few days.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and California governor Gavin Newsom went head-to-head yesterday.

Newsom warned in an address to Californians that Trump was pushing indiscriminate mass deportations

and risking public safety by deploying

the National Guard.

Democracy is under assault before our eyes. This moment we have feared has arrived.

But speaking at Fort Bragg, Trump defended his decision to send thousands of troops and hundreds

of Marines.
