this shorthand for a big controversy in Parliament.

And to note that the former president of the United States now presumed to be the

candidate of the Republican Party Mr. Trump mentioned it the other day. It's time for

definition. Joe, what is the Rwanda plan that Riesi Sunak is saying,

we're going to do this?

It doesn't matter what it costs.

We're going to do this.

What is it, Joe?

Well, the Rwanda plan is sort of like the British equivalent of the old remain in Mexico policy. The economic migrants, they're coming in search of work opportunities, have discovered that they

can short circuit the normal immigration process if they claim asylum, which is a status

which is supposed to be reserved to people who are in genuine fear of their lives

you know because of war or oppression and so the purpose of Britain's Rwanda plan has been to create a deterrent for that by saying,

well, okay, if you want to come to the UK to claim asylum, we're going to fly you to Rwanda

and you can file your asylum claim there and then if you're approved you will

resettle in Rwanda. So the point is to say Britain will fulfill its

obligation to not send people who are claiming asylum back to the country that they've come from, while trying to create a deterrent for people who otherwise are making very, very dangerous journeys in very small boats across the English Channel and quite a few of them die in the

attempts. This is a humanitarian disaster that they're trying to cut off and I think

that the fundamental issue here is that developed countries are trying to create

disincentives for gaming an asylum system that many migrants are now trying to use in ways that the asylum system

was never intended for.
