This is CBS, I am the world. I'm John Batsow, a Joseph Sternberg member of the editorial

board of the Wall Street Journal. He's based in London. And we come from London to Washington.

In these last days, the Biden administration's Environmental Protection Agency has advanced

to plan. A plan between now and 2040. There are details that are not provided. There

is a larger story here that is described in the headlines. I'll go to Bloomberg.

Biden plans to slash planet warming pollution from power plants. Subhead. EPA limits would

stamp out most electric sector emissions. Subhead, measure would accelerate renewable power,

carbon capture. There are many details to add, but this is about ending my understanding.

Coal and gas fired power plants in the United States with the utopian confidence that the

renewables can be switched into the power grid that we know we will need going forward

to 2040 and afterward. Joe, this reads like a campaign document and good for the campaign

because the president has announced his reelection plan, satisfying the members of his party

and those who supported him, the independence about green power renewables and ending the

fossil fuel industry. But at the same time, it's a puzzle toe how we're going to do that.

And so how do you measure this, these statements about ending energy as we understand it?
