I'm John Baxter with my colleague, Joseph Sternberg, and I'm late to the dance about

high speed to HS2 on the front pages of newspapers in London.

This is a railroad projected for many years at rising costs to connect London with Manchester

Birmingham Leads and northern parts of England.

It is not built and the price keeps going up and it's a major political volleyball back

and forth now because where she soon act, the Prime Minister has an opinion so to the

people of Manchester and Leads and Birmingham.

Joe, I'm late to this.

What I see is a lot of explanation, but what I also see is a cost starting in the 30 billion

pound range.

And now at 100 billion, there's no reason to believe it's going to stop because nothing's

built yet.

Nothing's even guaranteed except for one patch.

Why do they need this, Joe, is it a game in Parliament or are the roadways no longer

adequate?

Well, I think the rationale for high speed, too, is always that there's been this longer

term problem.

We've talked about this before, it really came to the fore during the Brexit referendum

in 2016.

This long term problem where the economy around London and the southeast of England is

absolutely booming.

You have a lot of industry here.
