This is CBS I in the World with Joseph Sternberg. A member of the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal,

he writes the Politically Kinomics column. He is in London, observing the European Union,

which Britain used to belong to, but NATO Britain does belong to, and these are somewhat

overlapping gatherings of primarily prosperous and confident states. But because of Ukraine

conflict, because of Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin's decision to boycott or to inflame or to

provoke energy confrontation over these last years and days and weeks, the European Union is

without adequate resources, not only for this year, but especially for next year, the winner

of 24, and profoundly for the winner of 25. There is management, however. So let us begin

with meteorology. Joseph, I've spoken with Italy recently, Northern Italy, Tuscany and

Lombardi. And the temperatures are reported warm to moderate. So warm that in Tuscany, the

Mamosa is in bloom two months early. A beautiful plant gives off a great flavor. And the Alps,

this is dire. The Alps ski slopes are either empty or emptying because there's no snowpack

building up in Switzerland and Austria and Northern Italy. So I've also spoken to Berlin,

where it's rainy and moderate, no special snow, but no cold step. How is it with you in

London because your energy resources are even more fragile than the continents?
