Summary

We love the BFI London Film Festival round here at Empire Towers. So, with this year's festival still in full swing, we were delighted to host our first ever Empire Podcast roundtable, in which Chris Hewitt talks to three actors who each have films showing at the festival. In this engrossing, frank, and often hilarious chat, Ben Mendelsohn (star of The King and Babyteeth), Morfydd Clark (star of Eternal Beauty, The Personal History Of David Copperfield, and Saint Maud), and Jimmie Fails (star of and inspiration for The Last Black Man In San Francisco) pull back the curtain on what it means to be an actor, their various films in the festival, and how to avoid being a complete A-hole. Enjoy.

Hello, I'm Chris Hewitt and welcome to a very special edition of the Empire Podcast.

0:19.6

The BFI London Film Festival is one of our favorite film festivals and not just because

0:25.2

it doesn't require a train or a plane to get there.

0:28.3

It is a wonderful festival that presents an incredibly wide array of movies over the course

0:33.4

of almost two weeks.

0:35.6

And a wide array of movies requires a wide array of actors.

0:40.4

And so in an Empire Podcast first, we decided to get three incredible actors into the same

0:45.6

room to talk about their experiences of the London Film Festival.

0:49.8

The movies they have here at the festival, six in total and the nature of acting itself.

0:55.9

And the three incredible actors are Ben Mendelssohn, the brilliant Australian actor who

1:00.5

is broken through in the last few years since his turn in Animal Kingdom and is cropped

1:04.2

up in blockbusters like Rogue One, Captain Marvel, Ready Player One and more.

1:09.6

He has two movies at the LFF, The King and Baby Teeth.

1:14.3

Lenders Jimmy Fales, who is the first time actor here with the last black man in San

1:18.2

Francisco, which is a semi-autobiographical tale in which he plays well.

1:23.0

Jimmy Fales.

1:24.4

And finally, there's Morphid Clark, a fast rising Welsh actor who has three films here

1:29.1

at the LFF, The Personal History of David Copperfield, St. Maud and Eternal Beauty.

1:35.0

Now in terms of a conversation, this became exactly what I hoped it would be, a fun and

1:39.6

frank exchange about acting and why actors act between three really interesting performers,

1:45.6

each of whom are at very different stages of their career.

1:48.6

I hope you enjoyed as much as I did.
