Summary

After kicking off today’s Ruminant with a few reflections on his pesky first name, Jonah soon embarks on a thorough analysis of Joe Biden’s rise to the presidency and the intellectual insecurities that often come packaged with the Oval Office. An eclectic potpourri follows as Jonah explores the distinction between assassination and murder, his relationship with a top British cabinet official, and the hypocrisy of European nations regarding the abortion debate. It all ends with a more lighthearted assessment of the differences between Hollywood movies and real life. This is the conclusion of Noah Week. And although my name is not Noah, I often get called Noah.

0:45.9

There's something about the name Jonah. It happens less and less, I think, because Jonah is becoming

0:51.1

a more popular name out there. But there's something about my name that is never really computed with a lot of people.

1:05.2

First of all, a lot of people just think it's Joanna or John. Long before Starbucks started,

1:12.0

when I go to Starbucks, I just say my name is John, because I can't.

1:15.0

But Jonah just doesn't work. But it's amazing when I talk to people on the phone.

1:21.5

And I'll say my name is Jonah. And they'll be like Joanna. Or if they call me and they see the name Jonah on the

1:31.0

paperwork, they'll just assume I'm female. And I don't want to get into the gender binary stuff, but I don't

1:38.9

think my voice is particularly feminine. And even though I'm talking for minutes at a time, they'll still say, Ms. Or Ms.

1:50.0

And my, my subscription to National Review, the print magazine, for over 20 years now, I have fought a losing

2:02.7

battle to get them to change my name on the address label from Johan to Jonah. And the amazing thing

2:11.2

is every couple of years, I would succeed. And it would start coming to Jonah Gover. And then like

2:16.7

six months later, it will revert back to Johan. That's a total mystery to me.

2:22.7

But lots of people have never heard the name, don't know the name. So people think with a nautical background,

2:27.4

I don't think it's bad luck. Or whatever. But and maybe because of the nautical tie-in, some people's brains would

2:34.9

go to Noah. And I would get called Noah Gover. But anyway, it's the end of no week because the two guests

2:41.5

on the podcast this week were Noah Phillips and Noah Rothman. I thought they were both good conversations. I

2:46.9

also recorded an episode with David Bernstein, which will probably air next week. It was a

2:58.2

ordeal recording it because his Wi-Fi was very, very poor where he was. He was visiting family members.

3:06.1

And so the hope is it all recorded fine. We used this new platform called Riverside that records all
