This is Friends of History Debating Society live from Lundinium, 91 AD, a summer's evening.

Germanicus is here. We're at the wine bar. The Centurions remain telling Whopper stories,

wonderful stories. We have a couple of stories to tell as well about how the British Empire,

inheriting the Roman Empire, maintained authority over a vast globe where communication

and transportation was extremely difficult and challenging and required high technology and a lot of patience.

We don't have any of that here in the American Empire, and yet we're not doing as effective a job as the British did once upon a time,

although there was the crack up of the American colonies. However, we turn to the

American colonies 250 years later, that's right now. We have an analogy that increasingly becomes

useful, which is the edible struggle. Elon Musk is the illegitimate son.

He is falling into the role of Mark Anthony, Caesar's master of the horse.

And Octavian, from out of nowhere, is the adopted son. In this case, Senator, now Vice President Vance, a younger man than Mark Antony, but nonetheless vivid and well-spoken,

and a resume of worthwhile and to be admired.

And then because Caesar's still with us, sort of, in the person of the president, it's not a direct analogy, it's a rough one.
