For a century and puzzling through how they'll work out the two wars. Now two wars, and there's

always the possibility that there will be others coming along. The great powers are flummoxed

to be able to settle any one of these wars, but now they've got two of them simultaneously.

At the same time, I tell Germanicus—I remind Germanicus—that we're in Londonium, which

is a very comfortable place for us here, not only one ID, first century, of the Roman Empire,

and the second century, it will even be more comfortable. We can see that. We can also see that

sometime around the year 400 AD, in that many centuries from where we sit right now,

Londonium will be abandoned, and the angle of Saxons—the angled tribe and the Saxon tribe from

Germany—will dominate this landscape, and Londonium itself will fall into disrepair—the

swamp will take over. The stones will be raided to build other buildings,

and no one will live where we're sitting right now. Several centuries later, down the river,

there will be a new settlement run in some fashion as the trading post, but the memory of where

we're sitting right now will be lost. So much so that the angle of Saxons will have a word for

this city, Londonium. They'll call it the work of the giants. I tell that story because

it's about memory, and Germanicus and I have been speaking of memory of the 21st century.
