Summary

The Warriors stunk up the joint in Utah last night, committing 19 turnovers and playing poor defense for most of the contest. Only Klay Thompson was able to get his shots, as Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Draymond Green all struggled from the field. Everyone in white was a net minus, and the Jazz romped to a 30-point victory, only their third against the Dubs in the last 17 games. Steve Kerr called his team's play "pathetic." The NBA individual stats leaderboards are the subject of this week's Statistical Deep Dive, particularly where the Warriors fall in some of the most fun categories, like true shooting percentage, win shares, and three-pointers made. There's a few surprises among them. Lastly, the Warriors take a look at Steve Kerr, who's been fighting the good fight away from the sideline in addition to coaching the Warriors to the league's best record. His willingness to speak out against what he sees as unjust practices coming out of the White House resonates with his players, and deepens the bond between them. This penchant for confronting hard truths has also led Oakland Magazine to name Kerr its East Bay Person of the Year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Greetings, Hoops Heads, welcome to Locked-on Warriors, part of the Locked-on Podcast Network.

It's Wednesday, January 31st. I'm your host, Aliko Carter. Well, that was an old school

0:40.7

ass weapon that we got from the Utah Jazz at altitude last night. I talked about the Warriors

0:47.1

being able to win if they limited turnovers, which they didn't do. I talked about them being

0:51.8

able to win if they limited the Jazz's offensive boards, which they did not do. And I talked about them being able to win if they limited the Jazz's offensive boards,

0:55.0

which they did not do. And I talked about them being able to win if they ran people off the three-point

0:59.8

line. I didn't think that the jazz were going to be able to score with the Warriors, but, you know,

1:06.5

every team comes with fire when they play the Warriors. And, you know, a lot of those guys were just on.

1:13.8

And J.B. and Fitz seem to be forgiving the Warriors' defense just being like, oh, the Jazz

1:20.7

can't stop making shots.

1:21.9

Well, yeah, if they're being guarded, they're going to miss those shots.

1:25.2

If they're being guarded at the three point line, if they're being closely guarded and, you know, the warriors are taking their jobs defensively

1:33.6

seriously, then they don't make nearly as many of those three-pointers, most of which were wide

1:38.1

open. So, you know, it's really a defense thing. And it's been going on for an entire month now, this bad defense.

1:46.8

Lack of intensity, lack of energy, lack of running people off the line.

1:51.6

Some poor rotations.

1:53.0

Draymond was frustrated at, or excuse me, David West was frustrated at a rotation that Clay Thompson missed in the, I believe, fourth quarter.

2:02.9

You could just see it on his face.

2:05.2

And, you know, Clay Thompson isn't the only culprit, everybody, was just not where they

2:10.5

needed to be defensively and offensively.

2:15.1

The Jazz just played a much better defensive game.
