and mic thanks for having me thank you for joining me despite being under the weather i appreciate

you soldering forward no worries so for starters what is your specific role with the wall street

journal what is your day in day out work life like and i guess out of all of the aspects of the

beat that you cover the stories and places that you and your co-author cover why did the two of you

settle on this subject for uh for a whole book sure i've been with the wall street journal as the

china tech reporter for about six years at this point and you know when you cover technology you do

cover very broad range of areas from internet companies to social media companies to semiconductors

and chips and even something like digital surveillance that what they got josh and i started on this

book was in 2017 i was tracking the money that was going into chinese tech startups and i realized a
