I used to work at a magazine about haunted places and I wound up writing a book called Weird New York.

And one night I was hanging out with Shannon O'Neill.

And we were talking about a bunch of stuff about it.

And me, her, and this guy Andy, who was a little bit of a loose cannon, we all got in my car.

We were just like talking shit at McManus at the bar.

And we were like, oh, let's go see something.

So we drove to Staten Island and we went to this abandoned monastery, which I thought was pretty rad.

I also liked it because it was like in the middle of a suburban neighborhood.

So it was just like a bunch of people's backyards and then behind them this gigantic, gothic, abandoned thing with like a huge fountain

that was a cross, like it wasn't functioning.

It was like there's a bend and overgrown out and that was a cross.

We just went out there and fucked around.

It was pitch black too.

It was really scary. It was legitimately terrifying, I thought.

Yeah.
