| 0:00.0 | All right. I believe we are live. Hey, everybody out there watching on YouTube and on Substack. |
| 0:06.2 | I'm Andrew Eger, White House correspondent for the Bullwork, author of our Morning Shots newsletter with |
| 0:10.7 | Bill Crystal, our editor at large, who's here with me today. We are here for the third and |
| 0:15.3 | hopefully not final week of our Tuesday morning live show coming off of our Morning Shots newsletter. It just went out a little bit ago. This is Morning Chaser, your Tuesday morning chaser. Thanks to you all for coming and tuning in with us and to everybody who's watching later. Bill, how are you doing this morning? Just fine. And you? Oh, you know, I'm doing great. What a time to be alive. There's so much going on in the news right now. I have been trying to wedge some content on what seems to me like a very important story about AI and who gets to own it and what the future of it is into the newsletter for several days now. But it keeps being superseded by more immediately pressing concerns. So we're going to do both today. We're going to talk about the more immediately pressing concerns, and we'll do a little bit about AI as well. But let's start with what's on everybody's mind, right? It's good that Andrew isn't taking it personally every time Sam and I tell him, you know, that thing could be put off for another day, Andrew. It's not really quite as important as the war that's going on. And Andrew, you take it, you take it, you take it well. |
| 1:15.6 | We'll get it in. I think 2027, there'll be a good lead morning shots item on AI, DOD, |
| 1:23.1 | Anthropic. It's actually a very interesting topic. We will get to it after we do the war |
| 1:28.4 | first, right? |
| 1:34.2 | Yes, that's right. Because as you may or may not have heard or seen by now, we are seemingly sort of at war. We're quasi at war. No war has been declared, but that seems to be increasingly |
| 1:39.3 | a sort of frippery, a formality these days, at least the way, you know, presidents from all over |
| 1:44.5 | tend to practice it, and especially this one. It has been a little strange to watch the president |
| 1:50.0 | and the defense secretary not bother to avoid the word war. I mean, they keep talking about us |
| 1:55.1 | being at war, where usually under these circumstances, presidents have a little bit more, they |
| 1:59.8 | sort of talk around it. They talk about, |
| 2:01.2 | you know, these limited actions that we're taking, you know, in these different theaters around |
| 2:05.8 | the world. But let's talk about that, Bill, because you wrote the top for our morning newsletter |
| 2:09.4 | today. We are, I don't know how many days now actually removed from the strikes. You know, |
| 2:14.7 | they happened over the weekend. And it's now and, and, uh, and it's now Tuesday morning. And yet, uh, even though we have gotten quite a bit more communication now from the White House, um, in the form of the president calling up many random reporters, uh, at odd hours, uh, to sort of give his stream of consciousness thoughts about the, the the the quote unquote war uh we've had |
| 2:35.6 | you know marco rubio out there talking we've had mike johnson out there talking jd vans out there talking |
| 2:40.0 | about these actions and yet it does not seem as though we are that much closer to understanding |
| 2:45.3 | really why we did this or what our objectives are and were in doing it than we then we did over the weekend. |
| 2:53.3 | So you wrote about some of this this morning. Can you just kind of talk us through the state |
| 2:56.8 | of play in terms of what the administration is saying about all of this right now? |
