Summary

This Labor Day episode is largely a discussion of the LIV Boston event and where this disruptor league might be heading. Andy and Brendan discuss the tension between the curiosity factor from its initial events wearing off against the context for the league that builds with each event. They discuss how Westy’s abominable gag may be the surest sign yet that this is legitimate competition. They are increasingly bought in on the entertainment appeal of the 54-hole format and the shotgun start. TV deal rumors are also pondered. There is praise for another KFT finals Sunday delivering, and a hypothetical about what’s to stop LIV from taking a run at Justin Suh. They hit on the season plus playoffs format of handing out 50 cards continuing to work, but with the usual appeal for more movement once in-season. Lucy Li’s work on the LPGA is covered. They close with some spicy quotes on the upcoming Wentworth commingling, as well as some Minor League Golf Tour talk given Eric Cole’s success at KFT Finals.

Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here.

Greetings and welcome to a Monday edition of the shotgun start, it is September 5th, Andy, how are we doing?

0:42.0

Brendan, we're living in a dynasty era, you know, great, great three-peats of all time, the four races join the bulls of the 90s, the Lakers of the 2000s, the Yankees, you know, there just aren't many teams that can put together such a dominant run.

1:02.0

It is, I mean, it is very obvious given how the draft was quickly cast aside and these guys just buddied up, I mean, you have the most talent in a small field, limited field, and they've taken off here with it.

1:20.0

Patrick Reed, hot for a week, DJ, hot for a week, you got Pat Perez actually made, it was a factor on this Sunday in Boston, but yes, they are on their way to, or they are a dynasty, I suppose, in a little...

1:33.0

Pat Perez, just a great, great bench guy, you know, all time, all time team player, not afraid to get in there and do the dirty work.

1:46.0

He, I mean, I guess he has his own appeal to a certain segment out there, but I just like, the more he's out front in this thing, I just don't think is winning the broader segment of fans over.

1:58.0

I mean, these quotes are being shared on social media with the graphics, 4.75 million eight in the next mission.

2:05.0

It's like, well, like, as we've talked about here, many times money doesn't, money doesn't, like, imbue stakes, it never has.

2:14.0

It can certainly up the, up the pressure for some, DJ seems to love playing for money.

2:20.0

That seems to, he talked about it after, seems to make him anxious.

2:24.0

The writer cup pays like zero dollars and is the most pressure in the game.

2:28.0

It's not a given, and I'm not saying it doesn't, but it's not a given that money automatically makes something an exhibition or not.

2:34.0

I'm not arguing this is. I think Westie, Westie would, uh, would argue with you.

2:39.0

You know, coming down the stretch, trying to get, I'm not saying it's an exhibition.

2:42.0

I'm just saying the money doesn't make it per se, like, de facto exhibition.

2:46.0

We saw vintage Westie out there.

2:49.0

That's the sure sign that this is real competition is Westie shitting himself on the last hole when he had a chance to win.

2:55.0

He need a birdie to win and shoot 60, not only did not.
