Summary

Minisode Eighteen is dedicated to winter reads. Summer reading seems to get all the attention, but as we hunker down into our second month of winter lockdown in the UK, we’ve been thinking about the kinds of books we turn to in the colder months of the year (and at peak pandemic exhaustion). We’re going to discuss what makes a good read in bleak weather, and some of the best books set in the bleakest season. Also featuring: tantalising news of our forthcoming Patreon page! 1:03.1	And some days are better than others, but I'm just looking forward to spring with everything that I have

1:19.7	So yeah, it's been tough, but I'm okay. How are you doing?
1:23.5	I am okay and also not very okay. And it's kind of a weird. It's a weird thing. As you know,
1:31.1	my beloved father died of COVID a couple of weeks ago. So yeah, it's really strange. Grief is so
1:39.7	all-consuming, you know, and January went by in this strange blur of emergencies and
1:46.0	fearful anticipation once he had his diagnosis and listeners who've been tuning in for a while
1:53.3	will know my father had Alzheimer's and was living in a nursing home and this year has been,
1:57.9	well, last year, I guess it was 2020. It was incredibly difficult. And now he's,
2:03.7	he's gone and it's, I don't know how to say it really. I mean, like, in a way, everything
2:10.8	you just described is awful and miserable anyway, but there is some strange parallel with the experience of grief,
