HRT after a heart attack and Leah asks about use of HRT after a stroke.

These are excellent questions, and often

women receive conflicting information

about hormone use after stroke, heart attack, or deep vein thrombosis or dviete.

All three can be caused by a formation of a clot in the artery that supplies oxygenated blood to the tissue.

Our bodies have a complex clotting process called the clotting cascade.

This process is activated when tissue damage occurs in order to stop the bleeding at the

side of the wound. A very important feature. There are points along the cascade process that can go wrong and increase the risk for clotting when a clot isn't needed.

Some of those interruptions are caused by genetic factors.

Studies have been done to see what effect female

hormones especially estrogen have on our clotting process. These studies have shown

that oral estrogens impact clotting factors in a way that increases
