series with my reporting on Hollywood's Mountain Lion Celebrity P22. One thing that came out of my

reporting was that P22 was so famous, in part because he managed to cross two major freeways without getting hit.

P-22 would go on to become the spokescat for a campaign that raised over $100 million to build a wildlife bridge on the outskirts of Los Angeles at a place called Liberty

Canyon. It's officially called the Wallace-Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. The overpass will help

reconnect the Santa Monica Mountains to other protected areas to the north of L.A. so that young

mountain lions like P-22 can safely cross the 101 freeway to mate and

establish new territory.

Wildlife biologists think the crossing will also help other isolated species.
