Summary

Today I'm honoring one of my spiritual fathers , Buddhist monk Thích Nhất Hạnh, who died in January 2022. He was a peace activist, prolific author, poet, and teacher, who founded the Plum Village Tradition, and is recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism. Known as the "father of mindfulness" his words have held me through so much healing. Spiritual mothers and fathers can come from almost anywhere, not just proximity, and if you come from toxic or inadequate parents like me, this matters. We've been conditioned to avoid all suffering, to demand safe spaces externally, but the only real safety is what you cultivate inside yourself with your own inner child. Remember that breathing is the bridge between mind and body - just being is your birthright. Light and love, and I hope you enjoy this throwback episode and the lesson in it. Titnot Han was a Buddhist monk. He was a prolific writer. He has written some very powerful books. I believe he has more than 30 out there. So if you're interested as we go through the episode and I share more of his wisdom, I don't even want to leave you with one book recommendation. Some of my favorites are anger

and recovery, healing of the inner child. He has books on fear and transforming suffering into peace.

He was a beautiful, beautiful man and spirit. And I'm so grateful to share him with you today.

And I thought I'd do this episode today as I work on an episode saying goodbye and

thank you to Melody Beatty's life and work.

I don't remember the live stream topic in our Patreon last year

where this came up, but later last year, someone told me while we were live that Melody Beatty

had passed. Now, she was the mother of codependency. She wrote the book that I reference the most, the language of letting go

journal that I have just touched and held and read from more than any other book in all of my life.

1:37.5

She's a spiritual mother to me who has held me with her words more times than I could ever count.

1:44.8

I'd be surprised if I'm not responsible for selling at least a thousand of her books over the years,

turning people onto her work.

And if you were there live or catch it later in replay, you'll see me burst into tears.

She was on my dream list of people I wanted to interview. It's choking me up

iffy or woo-woo to you, today and every day, I will never ask you to just believe what I'm saying

and buy in. I want you to experiment in your one precious life, to try things, to dip your toe,
