Summary

Jacques and Kevin consider their encounters with powdery mildew, how it might crop up regardless of prevention measures, and why their gardens aren’t subject to pest pressure this year. Welcome back to the beat, last time we were talking about summer and what we've learned

0:09.4

and what we've changed maybe a little bit and I wanted to talk a little bit about disease

0:13.0

and pest pressure because I feel like it's getting better every year for some things

0:19.9

for sure.

0:20.9

Like for instance, powdery mildew seems to be a lot less prevalent this year than I am

0:26.7

at least used to.

0:28.2

I'll say this for me, powdery mildew is pretty damn prevalent in the front yard garden

0:34.2

in the birdhouse gourd and the winter squash but also it's been a long time like those

0:38.8

0:40.6

So my perspective on powdery at least in our region is like it's going to be there no

0:44.5

matter what and the weaker the plant gets the more susceptible it is and if I'm looking

0:48.8

at the end of maturity on the squash, okay well it's going to be there and I have like

0:52.8

12 birdhouse gourds hanging so I'm not too worried about it but I would say for me what

0:57.2

I've noticed is my pest pressure is way down.

0:59.4

My disease, I'm still seeing like even a little powdery creeping up the base stems of my

1:04.3

tomatoes.

1:05.3

That's true, actually I have seen that out.

1:06.3

Which is frustrating to see because I really, like I plan my tomato garden out this

1:11.6

year in such a way specifically just to avoid disease.

1:14.6

It wasn't even anything else.

1:15.8

Yeah.

1:16.8

Like all other design was put to the, you know, the backburner.
