Well, howdy there, Internet people? It's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about pulling out of Paris and beyond.

It's a guarantee that Trump will almost immediately pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement.

He did it the first time, and he's promised to do it again.

It's a campaign promise he can fulfill with relative ease.

He can sign to leave the agreement day one and be withdrawn about a year later.

What is the Paris Agreement?

An international treaty about the climate.

When you hear people talk about 1.5 or 2 degrees above pre-industrial temperatures,

they're referencing the Paris Agreement.

The agreement itself is legally binding, but most of the provisions really aren't.

One of them is the required submission of a plan every five years.

Ironically, Trump's administration will have to submit that regardless of him trying to withdraw.

Most countries are relatively invested in the agreement and will continue to some degree without

U.S. involvement, though they may take even smaller steps than they have been, and the steps being

taken are nowhere near enough. Another concern is that Trump's team has signaled their interest

in also withdrawing from the

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The U.S. entered into that back in the early 90s, and it's kind of the founding document

for international climate mitigation.

That was approved by the Senate, so it'll be harder for him to withdraw, but it isn't

out of the realm of possibility.
