So today, we're going to talk about Trump giving up on his plans to rename Veterans Day and VE Day, after veterans threw up some roadblocks in his way.

The Trump administration is surrendering in the fight to celebrate victory days.

We are so beyond satire at this point.

Last week, Trump declared some pretty big shakeups to military tradition and celebrations.

They were widely panned by the very people he thought would like the changes.

The White House press secretary said, quote,

We are not renaming Veterans Day. It will just be an additional proclamation that goes out on that day.

I'm old enough to remember when Trump posted to social media saying, quote, I am hereby

renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War

2 and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I. It was like four or five days ago. Surprise.

Veterans weren't happy about Veterans Day being changed to Victory Day for World War I.

The press secretary also went to social media to post quote,

We will always honor Veterans Day, and we should commemorate the end of World War I and World War II as victory days.

It should be noted that traditionally World War I is commemorated

separately at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day. Veterans Day grew out of Armicist Day, which marked an

armist to end the fighting of World War I. It was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. So at 11 a.m.

on November 11th, there's normally a nod to World War I. Vets were even less happy about May 8th

being designated as Victory Day for World War II. Because the war wasn't over for the United States then.

May 8th has historically been known and acknowledged as VE Day, Victory in Europe Day. If you miss the

previous explanation, the war in the Pacific didn't end until September. Again, the, oh, that's why they did it that way,
