Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump bringing on Carrie Lake.

People in Arizona are already groaning.

Don't worry, it isn't that bad.

Or maybe I should say it could be a lot worse.

For those who don't know, or maybe don't remember, Carrie Lake ran for governor

in Arizona, and when she lost, she claimed she didn't and started a series of legal battles.

She then ran for senator and was defeated by Senator-elect Ruben Gallego. She's been described

as Trump in Heals. Yeah, sorry about that imagery, but it's a good

description as long as you don't imagine it. Trump has indicated that she will be running

Voice of America, which is U.S. state-funded media founded during World War II. It's an independent agency under the U.S. agency for

global media, but it gets its budget alongside appropriations for U.S. embassies. So make of that

what you will. VOA is actually pretty useful, as long as you understand that there is a pro-US slant.

But, I mean, it's not like that's exactly hidden. It's called Voice of America.

Trump has had issues with VOA going back years. He once indicated he believed that the outlet

says horrible things about the U.S. It honestly seems, based on his

statements, that he doesn't think there's enough of a pro-U.S. slant. So unless something changes,

Carrie Lake will be in charge of a network that has a global reach of hundreds of millions

per week. She will almost certainly help Trump politicize VOA, which is

supposed to be above such things. The idea of a firewall is a common metaphor at VOA. There's

supposed to be a separation between the network and politicians designed to keep VOA free from, quote,

interference by any U.S. government official in the objective, independent reporting of news,

...
