Well, howdy there, internet people, it's spell again.

So today, we're going to talk about South Carolina blocking redistricting and why it happened.

The South Carolina Senate stopped an effort to redraw the state's congressional maps.

Republican state senators Sean Bennett,

Chip Campson, Tom Davis, and Greg Hambry,

along with the Republican Senate Majority Leader,

Shane Massey, crossed the aisle to block it.

That led to this question. Quote, Hi Bell and D2. I just moved to South Carolina

a year and a half ago, and I follow politics pretty closely. I've been wondering why you

weren't mentioning Republicans trying to gerrymander South Carolina. You've covered almost every state on YouTube,

and those that you didn't de-covered on Patreon, except us. And we were a sure thing to be gerrymandered.

They have supermajority. Then all of a sudden, Republican state senators joined with Democrats and shut it down.

Did you know this was going to happen? What exactly happened? And these are conservative

senators from what I can tell. Help me understand my new state. I'm sure one of us at least mentioned the possibility at some point, but I honestly

can't remember. We suspected something like this might happen, but didn't know. You know what happened.

Some pretty conservative figures shot this down. It's for a mix of reasons. First, some genuinely

felt the new map broke up communities of interest. Communities that share interests should be in the

same district. Rejecting that is why Tennessee is going to have major issues with their redistricting. The people won't

be represented, and some senators didn't want the same thing for South Carolina. Others seem to

genuinely oppose extreme gerrymandering. The Republican Senate Majority Leader said, quote,

crushing the minority opposition is not a demonstration of strength.

It's an admission of fear and a show of weakness.
