Summary

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO THE PODCAST! In this podcast, I talk a lot about how to navigate understanding your kids through hormone changes. BUT I want to emphasize that as we try to empathize and work through these things with them, that we make sure that they speak to and treat us respectfully.  We want them to have a voice, but never at the cost of hurting the people around them.  This includes friends and siblings. Hitting the "pause" button is one of the best ways to do that. My husband and I have had teens in the house for 15 years.  We aren't perfect at it, but we've learned a lot and I'm sharing much of that right here on this podcast! Welcome to this week's podcast. Today I'm going to be talking about hormones. We're going to be talking a little bit

0:17.2

about our own hormones, but mostly about how to deal with hormones in our kids.

0:22.8

Before I do that, I just want to let you know that this podcast is brought to you by my book,

0:27.9

The Unhurried Homestooler. You can find this on Amazon. It is a simple, mercifully short book on

0:33.9

homeschooling. I also have another book called Unhurried Grace for a mom's heart. It is a 31-day

0:39.2

devotional written just for moms. So you can check that out on Amazon as well. Maybe you don't

0:47.2

already know me, but I am married to Darrell. We will be married 30 years this September. We have

0:53.5

eight kids ages 14 to 27. We've been homeschooling

0:57.6

for about 24 years, so basically from the beginning. And one of my favorite things to do

1:04.2

is just to encourage moms. And I ask them to let me know what kind of topics they want to hear

1:10.6

about. Well, it turns out that hormones

1:12.7

is one of those topics. So today I want to be talking about what do we do with these hormones?

1:22.8

You know, we see them start to kind of come on the horizon, sometimes in those tween years. It really,

1:29.6

really depends on the kid. I've had kids who have not really shown hormonal fluctuations till

1:36.9

later on, especially the boys. But my goodness, when they start happening, it can be a little

1:42.0

disconcerting. Sometimes we think, who are you? And what did you do

1:46.2

with that great kid of mine? I always tell people, about the time our kids got super helpful and,

1:53.6

you know, we're doing their chores consistently and we're very capable. It was about the time they

1:57.9

lost their brains. Hormones kicked in, and I don't know if you've noticed, but they forget all the time.

2:04.3

And sometimes it can be really challenging to know whether they're just kind of taken us for a ride

2:12.0

and using forgetting as an excuse or if they're legitimately struggling with forgetting things.

2:18.5

Now, one thing that you can do to sort of find that out is to think about what, are there any
